Newscast: Pet-run for Charity in Colombia (Novice)

Essential Question: How should we take care of domesticated animals?

Content Objective: List ways to care for animals properly.

Vocabulary: owners, shelters, breeds, scraps of food, bond

Summary: Recently, dog owners in Bogota, Colombia brought their dogs to the annual Pet-Run Race. Owners and their pups ran 5 kilometers in a race. The event is held to raise money for dogs in need. It will go towards building a new dog park in the city, as well as shelters for dogs without homes.

 

Newscast: Cossack Festival in Russia

Essential Question: How does geography impact culture?

Content Objective: Compare and contrast the Cossack culture to another (i.e.Native American, medieval knights etc.) culture.

Vocabulary: spin, sword, archery, fencing, ride a horse, strength

Summary: If you traveled to the small Russian city of Rostov-on-Don this year, you would see lots of kids riding horses and spinning in circles with swords. People of all ages came from many different countries to Russia to celebrate the 10th annual Cossack festival. The Cossacks are a group of people who are originally from Russia and Ukraine. Today, Cossacks live in many countries around the world and have unique traditions.

 

Newscast: Skeletons Discovered in Peruvian Crypt

Content Objective: Explain what was learned from this discovery.

Summary: Archeologists in Peru accidentally stumbled upon a crypt filled with dozens of skeletons in Cusco. They found the crypt at the Saint Francis of Assisi Temple, one of the world’s earliest Christian sites in South America. The crypt is believed to be more than 500 years old.
